I’ve just come from 9 days of being 100% unplugged.
I was in solitude, completely disconnected from technology, meditating, immersing in nature, mindfully preparing and eating colorful, fresh, organic meals.
I danced.
I wrote.
I read.
I savored silence.
Jason and I were scheduled to travel to the ashram for two weeks, but truthfully at the end of last year, I hit burn out.
I felt like I was crawling to the finish line of 2020.
I had absolutely nothing left. ZERO.
A downside of loving what you do is the likelihood of overworking because it doesn’t seem like work.
BUT, what I’ve discovered is that what’s fulfilling to the soul isn’t always kind on the body and BOTH are necessary for sustainable success.
So, my first step to refueling my energy was simple.
I sent brief messages and emails to friends, family, and clients on Christmas eve and then blissfully UNPLUGGED.
As you may know, over ten years ago, I did something similar when I moved to the redwood forest for a year and a half.
These 9 days felt very similar to those sacred months.
The only difference was that this time I didn’t have the emotional turmoil I was battling back then.
I was able to take in the sheer luxury and joy of living!
As the days unfolded, my mind grew quieter and the more still my mind became, the deeper I could hear my body’s language and what she needed moment to moment.
It was as if my whole body joyfully called out to me thank you, thank you, thank you for putting me first!!
Thank you for trading time at the computer for time climbing mountains.
Thank you for trading health bars on the go for warm, nutritious meals slowly enjoyed in silence.
Thank you for trading screen time for sunshine!!!!
It’s amazing what happens when you give yourself permission to freely live your life on your terms without apology.
Getting to enjoy a very simple life for 9 solid days without tending to anyone outside of me restored me.
I share this with you because no one is going to swoop down from the sky and give you what you need.
You’ve got to claim it.
You get to choose it.
And it starts with one step.
My first step was placing a clear, loving boundary by sending those emails to let everyone know.
I don’t know what it is that you need right now to feel your best and give your gifts from the overflow this year and not the undertow (as my beloved Jason says).
But, I do know this, you deserve to put your health first, yourself first, your frequency first.
More accurately, it’s your/our responsibility to do so.
I can tell you that if I hadn’t taken that time, I’d have nothing to give right now.
Thankfully, I saw the signs, listened to my body and I responded!
